Short interview with fellow 3rd year student

Vist Amy Seabrook's Profile

As a third year university student, I’m sure I’m not the only one worrying about my future, and what career path I will eventually be heading down. The thought of it sometimes makes me feel physically sick, and after chatting to Leyanne Goding about her plans, I suddenly felt a lot worse.

After spending the summer working for a magazine- her dream job, and being paid for it, Leyanne reveals: “It’s boosted my confidence so much, I’ve finally found out what I want to do”. Given that we’ll soon be graduating and thrown into the world of work, as I sit chatting to Leyanne about our plans, she seems so relaxed, not realising that what she’s just said to me is the complete opposite of how I feel!

The last time I spoke to Leyanne she seemed as terrified as me, so what had changed over the summer? “I decided that I wanted to do some work experience in magazines,” she said. “One day I looked on Google for magazines published in my area and found a title called ‘Luton and Dunstable at Large’, which I remembered reading in the pub once.

“I emailed the editor, was offered some work experience and after a week, was offered a paid position helping them with editorial content.”

She told me: “I’d loved my work experience because everyone was so friendly and after a week I felt as if I’d been there for ages, so when they offered me a job I jumped at the chance!”

Leyanne has been asked to return in the future and can’t wait to start her career as a magazine journalist. All I can say is…I’m very jealous!
